JARU?
How it began
JARU means 'sack' in Korean, symbolising the strong, humble bag that carries our dreams, passions, and love.
JARU began as a college project by our founder, Gunmoo, in 2016. Before starting JARU, Gunmoo had a diverse culinary journey, working as a chef in New York and later as a restaurant manager in Dublin. Thanks to the support of Enterprise Ireland’s New Frontiers programme and SuperValu’s Food Academy, JARU became a reality in 2017.
Our journey kicked off at a bustling street food market, where we served our delicious Korean BBQ rice bowls—still a beloved item on our menu today! That same year, our stall was recognised as Ireland’s best street food, and we launched our first product, Original Kimchi, in just three SuperValu stores. Fast forward to today, and you can find our kimchi in every SuperValu store, as well as in Nourish (Dunnes Stores) and various independent food shops and cafés across Ireland.
In 2023, we proudly opened our first restaurant, Space Jaru, in the heart of the Liberties, Dublin 8. Space Jaru is more than just a dining spot; it’s a vibrant community hub where you can enjoy cultural events, cooking classes, and a range of fun activities.
our dream
all about
quality food & people
Our mission is to bring the authentic flavours of Korean cuisine to Ireland and beyond, using the finest Irish/EU ingredients to create a unique fusion of cultures. We specialise in high-quality products like kimchi and Korean BBQ sauces, supplying both retail stores and food service providers to ensure our delicious offerings reach a wide audience.
Looking ahead, we aim to expand our presence in the European market by exporting our kimchi and opening more restaurants & cafes in Dublin/Ireland over the next few years. We aspire to become the leading player in the Korean food industry in Ireland/Europe, delivering exceptional taste and quality in every bite.
More importantly, we care deeply about our people: our team, our suppliers, and our customers. At JARU, we encourage our team members to identify their strengths and support their skill development through internal and external training and mentoring. This benefits both the individuals and the company. We regularly offer promotions and incentives to our team, ensuring that as the company grows, our members grow too. JARU is not just a profit-driven company; it’s a vibrant community where we all grow together.
